RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

UCSD Program in Medical Education – Health Equity | UCSD SOM | 05/2009 – 03/2013

Research Consultant

  • Collaborated with Assistant Dean for Diversity and Community Partnerships and PRIME Health Equity students to develop a service-learning program known as Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies that partnered local high school students with medical student health educators.
  • Conducted three-year ethnographic formative assessment of Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies and helped transition the program from an outreach initiative to a permanent part of the SOMs multicultural medical curriculum.
  • Produced recruitment video for UCSD School of Medicine’s Second Look Weekend featuring narrative accounts of PRIME-HEq’s impact on participating medical students’ professional development.

  • Organized and led bi-weekly workshops in academic writing and publishing.
  • Trained, managed, and evaluated undergraduate research assistants.

Health Services Researcher

  • Collaborated with San Diego Community Housing Corporation staff and UCSD faculty and student volunteers to implement and evaluate preventative health services for residents of an affordable housing community.
  • Organized H1N1 vaccination campaign and coordinated with UCSD Department of Family Medicine to vaccinate over 40 residents lacking medical coverage.

Editorial Assistant and Copy Editor

  • Managed publication process for four annual issues of an international, interdisciplinary academic journal.
  • Implemented substantive editing query system for foreign-language authors and updated workflow management systems to improve efficiency of submission, peer review, and editing procedures.
